Frequently asked questions

What is SeisMeteo Pro?

It is an optional in-app purchase, paid once with no subscription, that adds seismogram tools: all the stations near an earthquake (up to 8), 6, 12 and 24-hour windows on data stations (up to 12 hours at 100 Hz), full screen with zoom and adjustable sensitivity, and unlimited favorite stations.

Weather, alerts, earthquakes, notifications, widgets and the "Classic" seismogram view remain free for everyone, and every station stays free to view: 24-hour images and the last hour from data stations. You can buy Pro in Settings > SeisMeteo Pro, or by tapping any feature with a lock. SeisMeteo Pro works with Family Sharing.

I have a new iPhone or iPad: how do I get SeisMeteo Pro back?

Sign in with the same Apple Account you used to buy it, open SeisMeteo and tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings > SeisMeteo Pro. You won't be charged again.

If you received a code, use "Redeem Code" on the same screen.

I bought the old SeisMeteo Pro: do I have to pay again?

No. SeisMeteo is the update of the old paid SeisMeteo Pro. If you bought it, you get the Pro features at no cost: the app recognizes your original purchase through the App Store and, the first time you open it, shows "SeisMeteo Pro is included".

If that doesn't happen:

  1. make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used for the original purchase;
  2. tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings > SeisMeteo Pro;
  3. if it still doesn't work, write to me and tell me roughly which year you bought it. Never send me passwords or payment details.
Why don't earthquake notifications arrive right away?

SeisMeteo has no server sending notifications. iOS decides when to let the app check for new earthquakes in the background: usually every one to four hours, sometimes less often. That's why a notification may arrive hours late, or not at all.

To make the check more likely to happen:

SeisMeteo is an information app: it is not a warning system and does not replace the instructions of civil protection authorities.

Why won't a seismogram load?

Seismograms come straight from the data centers that run the stations. The reason is usually one of these:

If a station doesn't work for days, write to me with its code (for example IV.CSFT): I'll check it and, if needed, remove it from the catalog.

Why can't I see any weather alerts?

Apple Weather alerts exist only in the areas where Apple provides them, and Civil Protection alerts cover Italy only. The app tells "no alerts" apart from "alerts unavailable": in the second case the source didn't respond or doesn't cover that place, which doesn't mean there are no alerts. For official information, always check the channels of your civil protection authorities.

What is the location permission for?

It lets the app show the weather and alerts where you are, your distance from earthquakes and "near me" notifications. The app asks for your location only while you use it, with an accuracy of about one kilometer, and sends it to weather services only in rounded form. The details are in the privacy policy.

The permission is optional: without it, you can use the app with the cities you add yourself. To change it, go to iOS Settings > SeisMeteo > Location. The "Permissions" section in the app's settings shows the current status.
